This project has been in progress for several years due to its multiple layers of complexity. The re-habilitation of the Connecticut Avenue median was fully funded in January 2011 by the DDOT and Urban Forestry. Local businesses along the 600 foot long median began the fundraising efforts by paint for an extensive set of professionally produced plans for existing conditions, irrigation fencing, planting and traffic control measures required for the installation. It’s design was guided by a local committee that ensured healthy, non-evasive plants with vivid color and year-round blooms to maximize beauty. The preliminary instillation and irrigation was completed late summer 2011. This project ensures that our median reflects the vibrancy and beauty of the neighborhood that surrounds it. HDCMS continues to monitor water usage in order to maximize its effect.
